A Job Is Like Vegetables
Distinction: A Job is NOT a Career
Jobs can be part of a career like vegetables can be part of a meal.
Not everyone likes every vegetable.
As with vegetables, different jobs appeal to different people.
Sometimes certain vegetables take a little getting used to.
Sometimes certain vegetables remain repelling.
Sometimes certain vegetables are immediately good.
and
Sometimes you just get tired of that vegetable that you used to love.
What is one action that gives you enough feedback to make a decision if you will like a certain vegetable?
TRY THE VEGETABLE!
How can you decide if you don’t like something without trying it? How can you make any follow up decisions? Where are you when you are not making decisions?
After some prudent inquiry: is it poisonous/ dangerous? The only thing left is to experience it.
No one believes that vegetables are not good for you.
They are important in providing the nutrients for growth and good health.
Working and purpose are also integral for growth and good health. Taking action, making mistakes, and learning from them is growth and only when we are growing are we healthy. The exact vegetable is not important. The myth of a single superfood is a marketing ploy and nothing else.
The myth of a superjobis no different. If you wait around for the superfoodwithout consuming any others you will decay and eventually perish. The same is true with waiting for the superjob. Keeping your options open (avoiding commitment) in wait for the ultimate job that will be fun, easy, exciting, high paying, altruistic, and glamorous is a recipe for disaster.
Time will march on, moments come and go while you remain stagnant or worse decaying. The earlier you start trying vegetables the faster you will get feedback on what you do and don’t like. That feedback is your key to the future you want to create. Each job and jobs within your job offers essential information for developing the career you dream of. Taking a job is not committing to a career, although it is taking a valuable step in that direction.
